Mysterious horizon, hiding behind nocturnal veil, concealed marvelous sights. Mariano Martines(28) and his girlfriend Luisana Lopilato (Rebelde way actress) (18) were standing on the village berth.
They were waiting for a boat which was ready to carry the lovers to a tremendous Caras magazine’s island. Sudden ebb made it difficult for an old boat to draw nearer, that’s why it was replaced by fast launch. Quite recently-just a year ago this boat sailed with this present couple on board. And then neither Lu, nor Mariano suspected that their acquaintance would grow into something else-what is called «the love».
Lu and Mariano found themselves in such a private paradise for shooting several episodes of Cris Morena’s new serial “The pirate’s soul”(the first episode will be shown on Telefe on march). Lu and Mariano work together for the first time and this is the great experience undoubtedly, taking into consideration the feelings they are consolidated with. ‘We have separated our job and relationships. We are working excellently together now, enjoy ourselves a lot and respect each other’s opinion of course. Lu is a good colleague and an excellent actress,’ – Mariano says.
The actors met a year ago at Caras’ island, witch is called Angra dos Reis. The festival of island music with tambourines, drums and other national instruments was lavishly seasoned with dj’s samples. Following this rhythm, actors plunged into lovely temptation game. ‘I am really having good time with him, but we are not dating’-Luly affirmed and added : ‘To tell the truth, I want to find a guy who will treat me right, who will be tender and sweet. I don’t want to be hurt or broken-hearted’. Luisana’s wish has found in incarnation in her friend Mariano, who turned to be the best candidate. ‘I can go mad because of passion,’- Mariano said.
Today the couple is so much bounded together with love, that in the end of last year they became engaged. Two platinum rinds became the symbols of love.
And again, the last year irresistible energy united the couple on this island. The film crew of 20, including sound men, operators, producers and directors along with the actors arrived at this wonderful place to shoot the cinema masterpieces behind the virgin vegetation and deserted sea-sides of the island. The shooting began about 8 in the morning and lasted till the sunset.
‘The pirate’s soul’ gives birth to the three modern pirates with similar tragic past-the death of their parents. As a result, the main mission of the boys is to find the precious emerald and revenge on parents’ murderers. Mariano Martines, Benjamin Rojas and Fabian Massey are three friends, who go through the same adventure. It is the history of marines and fights with the inevitable flavour in the person of stunning Lu Lopilato, Isabel Masedo (Delfina in Floricienta) and Elsa Pinilia.
‘It’s a great pleasure for me to work with Behja and Fabian. There is a special mutual understanding between us. The landscape helped us to get the feel of our part, and during the breaks we swam and sunbathed,’-Mariano comments.
The direct ‘getting used’ to the parts began from the early morning- Lu and Mariano were the first to arrive at the island and had much to do. ‘My character’s name is Benicio and he is a swindler, -Mariano says proudly.-He is rather conserved and gloomy fellow, but he adores the sea and fencing-his father’s inheritance’. In the scenes on the beach Benicio and Allegra(Lu’s character) find themselves on the island after the shipwreck and several days of wondering in the open sea. Lost personages have no idea where they are. From this moment different adventures, including acute debates among the characters, arise.
‘Allegra-is a fearless lady, the only one who is able to fence and is familiar with koung-fu. She is not afraid to protect herself’. The plot reminds of ‘Blue Laguna’s’, where young Bruk Shilds took part of the beauty-sporty girlie, who got to the uninhabited island.
For actors to agree with natural shooting, they were being carried by the branded launch , with the five star cruiser following them with the technical crew on board. It was often very difficult to moor because of the waves. That’s why hydro cycles to get the land were used.
As soon as everything was adjusted, Lu and Mariano started shooting. Act, humor, sensual scenes, wonderful landscapes and bright sun were the great complements of one another. During the breaks the couple talked and repeated words for the following scenes.
While eating, both kept the strict diet. Daily menu consisted of tomato salad, lettuce and mozzarella. Sometimes Mariano asked for chicken. But nothing more! Both paid their attention to the body care. Not to pause his intense training with his coach Tuta Treiner, Mariano brought from Buenos-Aires 30 kg of sport equipment. ‘I run and do exercises with dumb-bells. But lately I am trying to master fencing, because deftness is so much important here,’-actor says.
His girlfriend also follows the strict schedule. In the morning she does unexercised under her personal coach supervision, and in the evening she attends gym-hall. Before the start of the shooting, Lu and Mariano, like the other actors, took fencing lessons under the surveillance of the master in this field-Diego Mariani. On set they used educational foils. Mariano explains: ‘Confidence is much important on set. If you are not concentrated, the injures are not excluded’.
But besides hard work there was a time for distraction. Between the scenes Luly and Mariano ran to the sea-side and refreshed themselves by swimming. It was also very funny when Mariano was to face the audience half-naked. He rolled his boxers up to such extent, that he got embarrassed and found a huge leave to hid the lower part of the body. This operation made all the crew hysterically laughing. Some scenes required organization and improvisation. Thus, the reed turned to spear for fishing, witch was lately fried on the faked fire.
The greater part of the time the couple behaved as partners. But invisible barriers were off when the power of this love-story was impossible to hide. Private conversations, bathing in warm water, little secrets became the absolute evidence of their growing each day love.
P.S: It is interesting to watch the development of the relationship between Mariano and Lu, especially in this article, where they are on island. As far as I remember just 3 years ago- almost the same thing happened to Luly and Felipe. Then they were shooting the first episodes of the second season of Rebelde way on Galapagos. They were in love, they were together, there was a movie-making crew along with them and all that miracle happened against the fairy background we could see in the serial. There is just the only one distinguishing feature-the journalists couldn’t write this kind of article because the affair between Lu and Felipe was being kept in secret. What a pity…
